FAQs

What is Salicylic Acid?

Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) naturally occurring in various plants such as willow bark. It helps them fight off diseases, pests, or bacteria.

Properties of Salicylic Acid:
- Anti-inflammatory
- Regulates skin cell turnover, removes dead skin cells, thus promoting a radiant complexion
- Lipophilic (oil-soluble), making it effective in pores against blackheads, blemishes, and pimples
- Enhances the penetration of other ingredients
- Anti-aging

Can the use of salicylic acid initially worsen skin problems?

In the first weeks of using salicylic acid products, the skin may occasionally experience an adjustment reaction, which can manifest as a temporary initial worsening. This effect occurs because salicylic acid removes dead skin cells and brings deep-seated impurities to the skin surface. This is normal and should improve over time. To avoid an initial worsening and to build tolerance to salicylic acid, products can be slowly introduced into the skincare routine at the beginning.

Can salicylic acid be used during pregnancy/breastfeeding?

In general, the application of salicylic acid during pregnancy is considered harmless when applied to limited areas of the face. However, during breastfeeding, we recommend avoiding products containing salicylic acid to prevent the baby from coming into contact with it. If you have any doubts or further questions about the use of salicylic acid during these times, consulting your doctor is recommended.
